Jon Corzine was sworn in as New Jersey’s 53rd governor in The War Memorial’s Patriot’s Theater in Trenton. New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Deborah Poritz administered the oath of office before a joint session of the New Jersey Legislature. Afterwards, he spoke about ending the state government’s reputation for corruption.
The program included a 19-gun salute. Carl Riccio, a high school wrestler who suffered a severe spinal cord injury in 2003 and was featured in a campaign commercial advocating stem cell research, recited the pledge of allegiance and Cynthia Alicea sang the national anthem.
