Telephone lines were open for comments on news of the day. Among the topics callers discussed were lobbying and ethics reform legislation in Congress.

Participating by telephone from Charleston, West Virginia, Mr. Ward spoke about the Sago mining accident in West Virginia. He spoke about local and Congressional hearings involving the accident, as well as objections by the company’s owner to presence of United Mine officials in the investigation. A Senate appropriations subcommittee was to hold a hearing on mine safety and the accident later in the day.

A brief video clip of the C-SPAN School Bus was shown. The bus began a tour in Jonesboro, Arkansas and was in Las Vegas, Nevada for the day. The bus was scheduled to reach San Diego, California at the end of the month. The tour was co-sponsored with Cox Communication Systems. close
