Professor Berkowitz talked about his book, Something Happened: A Political and Cultural Overview of the Seventies, published by University of Columbia Press, in which he examined America during the “me decade,” a term coined by author Tom Wolfe. He pointed out three phenomena that marked the era: the Watergate scandal, the oil crisis, and the Vietnam War. He stated that the world shifted as the Great Society programs of the 1960s began to fall apart in the 1970s. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions. close
