Mr. Schecter talked about his book The Devil’s Own Work: The Civil War Draft Riots and the Fight to Reconstruct America, published by Walker and Company. He described the 1863 draft riots in New York City, chronicling the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. He also talked about the ethnic, religious and class issues that sparked the riots and compared this controversial time to the current social climate in America.
