At the World Economic Forum in Davos, panelists from the Iraqi government and the international community discussed the future of Iraq. The group focused on national unity, economic development and security in Iraq.

David Ignatius moderated a panel, titled “What Is at Stake in Iraq?,” on Iraq’s prospects for peace as ethnic and political divisions, sustained terrorist attacks, and disputes over oil revenues present growing threats to the country despite recent elections and a new constitution. Among the topics the panelists discussed were the consequences for the region and the world if instability continues; if the new constitution provides an adequate framework for stability in the long run and room for political institutions to take root; how the international community can ensure that the country does not become a bastion for terrorists; and what are the toughest decisions the Iraqi leadership must make, and how can the international community support them.
