Professor Spriggs talked about U.S. policies on poverty. He described his new report, written with others, titled “U.S. Poverty Policy in the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina” which shows a weaker social safety net in New Orleans and the Gulf states than in other areas and recommends developing plans to alleviate poverty there and across the country. He also said that discrimination keeps blacks in low-paying jobs. He responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
