Professor Michael Rosenthal talked about his book Nicholas Miraculous: The Amazing Career of the Redoubtable Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. It is a biography about Columbia University’s longest-serving (1901-1945) president, Nicholas Murray Butler. Professor Rosenthal talked about President Butler’s influence in America during the early part of the 20th century, his continuous efforts at self-promotion, and the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Butler in 1931. He also read from a portion of the book and responded to questions from members of the audience.

The Friends of the Columbia Libraries sponsored the event, which was held in the Faculty Room of Low Memorial Library. close
