A panel, moderated by Mr. Milewski, talked about issues surrounding sexual orientation and public schools and promoting civil discourse on these issues. The panelists responded to questions from students in the audience.

New guidelines to help school districts deal with sexual orientation issues without undermining the faith of parents and students who have moral objections were released that day from the First Amendment Center. The guidelines seek to help schools and communities find common ground on First Amendment issues. Mr. Haynes and Mr. Jacobsen were primary drafters of the guidelines. The other panelists were also from organizations that had representatives on the drafting committee and endorsed the process recommended in the guide. The new guidelines are the latest in a series of common-ground statements developed and published by the First Amendment Center and endorsed by a broad range of religious and educational groups. close
