Saddam Hussein testified in his defense. In his testimony he called on Iraqi’s to join together to defeat the U.S.-led occupation and stressed that he was still the president of the country. His audio was cut several times by the chief trial judge who accused Saddam Hussein of giving political speeches. The trial was eventually closed to media because he refused to directly answer or speak to the charges against him.

Saddam Hussein was charged with crimes against humanity--if convicted he could face death by hanging. The trial, which began in October 2005, was adjourned until Wednesday, April 5, 2006.
