Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns, Secretary Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt, and Secretary of Interior Gale Norton spoke to reporters about threats to the U.S. posed by an avian flu pandemic. Among the issues they addressed were the probability that the flu would eventually be found in bird populations in the U.S., the likely migratory routes the flu might arrive, efforts to contain any outbreak, the low threat to human populations, and the ability to monitor the spread of the H5N1 virus in North America. Following their remarks they answered questions from the reporters. close
