Elouise Cobell talked about the 10-year-old lawsuit she and 350,000 other Indians filed against the Interior Department alleging federal-government mismanagement of Indian Trust Lands. She responded to audience telephone calls and electronic mail.

In March, both sides in the lawsuit asked Congress to help settle the suit by picking a settlement figure ranging between half a billion dollars and the $27.5 billion that tribes have sought. This was at a joint Senate Indian Affairs/House Resources Committee hearing. close
