The panel “In the Wake of Destruction” discussed the many books chronicling Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath from quickly constructed coffee-table tomes, to in-depth dissertations on the storm’s hows and whys, to loving looks back at the city that once was and, they hope, will be again. The panelists talked about their own Hurricane Katrina-themed works. There was no question-and-answer period.
Rosemary James is the editor of My New Orleans: Ballads to the Big Easy by Her Sons, Daughters, and Lovers, published by Touchstone. Tom Piazza is the author of Why New Orleans Matters, published by Regan Books. Douglas Brinkley is the author of The Great Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, published by William Morrow. Jed Horne is the author of Breach of Faith: Hurricane Katrina and the Near Death of a Great American City, published by Random House. Horne’s newspaper, the New Orleans Times-Picayune, was recently awarded the Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.
