Frederick Hess talked about his book Tough Love for Schools: Essays on Competition, Accountability, and Excellence, published by AEI Press. In the book he explores the practical and political challenges of accountability, competition, and excellence in education. Joining him in the discussion is Andy Rotherham, senior fellow at the Progressive Policy Institute and a former Special Assistant to President Clinton. Mr. Rotherham has authored numerous articles on education that have been published in the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. The discussion explored the issue of school reform and how to create school systems that will foster excellence in teachers and students. They responded to questions from members of the audience. close
