Wangari Muta Maathai, the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, delivered the commencement address to the 2006 graduating class of Connecticut College on the College Green. Minister Maathai, a Kenyan veterinary science professor and environmentalist, was the founder of the grassroots Green Belt Movement. Her themes included the environment, good governance, and working for peace. close
