Former Governor Pete Wilson talked about the current debate in Congress over immigration policy and his experience in dealing with the issue while governor of California. In 1994, while running for re-election, he endorsed a state ballot initiative that was designed to stem the flow of illegal immigrants by denying them health care, education and welfare benefits. California residents voted for Proposition 187, but it was later overturned by a federal court. Governor Wilson responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
