Daniel Okrent talked about his book Public Editor Number One: The Collected Columns (with Reflections, Reconsiderations, and Even a Few Retractions) of the First Ombudsman of "The New York Times", published by PublicAffairs. Daniel Okrent, the first public editor of The New York Times, discussed various aspects of his job as ombudsman. Mr. Okrent read excerpts from his recently published book, which is a collection of his New York Times ombudsman columns from December 2003 to May 2005. He recounted his own factual errors, his regrets, and his worst days on the job. Mr. Okrent also disclosed the competitive environment existing at the Times and talked about electronic mail he received regarding former New York Times reporters Judy Miller and Jayson Blair. close
