Robert Rosen talked about his book Saving the Jews: Franklin D. Roosevelt and the Holocaust. He disputed the long-standing belief that President Roosevelt abandoned the Jews in Europe, arguing that the president was not a passive bystander to the deaths of Jews but instead led an administration that dealt with Nazi persecution. Mr. Rosen said that President Roosevelt has been unfairly criticized for his failure to save the Jewish passengers aboard the St. Louis in 1939, his failure to change immigration laws, his failure to speak against the Holocaust, and his refusal to bomb Auschwitz. After his presentation the author responded to audience members' questions.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum hosted the Roosevelt Reading Festival III in the Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Education Center in Hyde Park, New York. Authors of recently published works that drew upon the Roosevelt Library archives presented author talks. close
