Professor Diann Jordan talked about her book Sisters in Science, published by Purdue University Press, which profiles the lives and careers of 18 black women scientists. She described the life of Yvonne Clark, the first black woman to receive her B.S. in mechanical engineering, and Shirley Jackson, the first female and the first black to be president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Professor Jordan detailed many of the challenges these women faced while pursuing careers in science. After her presentation she responded to audience members' questions. close
