Mr. Stier talked about the need for more media coverage on issues such as the lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina, the need for very talented people in public service jobs, and the need to change the way government works from the old command and control structure to communication.

Director Paulison, who is also an Undersecretary of the Homeland Security Department, talked about rebuilding the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The agency must be prepared for emergencies such as terrorist attacks, as well as hurricanes. Topics included better hiring practices, new digital warning system equipment, a better victim registration system, and education of citizens on preparation for disasters. After his presentation he responded to reporters' questions. close
