Sen. Conrad Burns and his Democratic challenger, Jon Tester, met for a debate at the Hamilton High School’s Performing Arts Center. It was a raucous event punctuated by heckling from a lively overflow audience. Jon Tester accused Sen. Burns of no longer representing Montana values. The candidates talked about political corruption and the campaign contributions each had received and various trips that they had taken. Moderator Jenny Johnson, editor of the Ravalli Republic, asked questions submitted to the paper on topics including: health care, immigration, national energy policy, the $8.5 trillion federal debt, Veterans Affairs, American troops in Iraq, and North Korea and Iran as potential nuclear powers. close
