Participants talked about gay and lesbian issues in the 2006 midterm elections and the potential impact of election results on future campaigns, including the 2008 national elections. Topics included same-sex marriage, proposed amendments to state constitutions baring same-sex unions, and the use of gay and lesbian issues to divide the electorate. The also talked about the recent scandal surrounding Former Congressman Mark Foley’s involvement with congressional pages and the possible impact of the revelation of the scandal and his sexual orientation on the midterm elections.
