President Bush spoke to reporters about the resignation of Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and his decision to nominate former CIA Director Robert Gates to the post. Mr. Gates and Secretary Rumsfeld made brief remarks after the announcement, talking about the U.S. mission in Iraq and combating terrorism. Secretary Rumsfeld spoke of the Iraq War as “little understood,” and referred to Winston Churchill’s sense of wit saying “I have benefited greatly from criticism, and at no time have I suffered a lack thereof.” close
