Ted Widmer talked about the book he edited American Speeches: Political Oratory from Abraham Lincoln to Bill Clinton, published by Library of America. The book is a two-volume compilation of some of the most notable speeches in American history, including Thomas Jefferson’s First Inaugural Address, Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s Address to the Woman’s Rights Convention.
At this event from St. Peter’s Church in New York City, the Library of America and the Toward International Peace through the Arts (TIPA) Project presented “Election Eve Oratory” to celebrate the publication of American Speeches. Several presenters read some of the speeches. close
