The Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing on enforcement of criminal insider trading and hedge fund activity. The hearings focused on whistle-blowing protections and Gary Aguirre’s claims that he was fired in September 2005 after he attempted to investigate a possible case of a hedge fund profiting by trading on inside information. Witnesses also testified more generally about the amount of hedge fund trading in financial markets, information sharing between the Security and Exchange Commission and Federal Bureau of Investigation, and proposed legislation to better protect whistle-blowers. close
