Gabor Boritt talked about his book The Gettysburg Gospel: The Lincoln Speech That Nobody Knows, published by Simon and Schuster. The guest interviewer was James Swanson. Topics included the fact that the Gettysburg Address was Lincoln’s first public speech since his inauguration and was one of only seven or eight speeches given during his presidency. He also told the story of Lincoln going to Gettysburg the day before the speech to walk the battlefield.
Hungarian-born scholar Gabor Boritt is a professor and director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College. He has authored or edited sixteen books about Lincoln and the Civil War, including The Historian’s Lincoln and The Lincoln Enigma.
James Swanson is a senior legal scholar at the Heritage Foundation’s Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. He is the author of Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer, published by William Morrow. close
