On February 7, 2006, Mr. Buchwald checked into a Washington, DC hospice, expecting to live only three weeks. Five months later, he left the hospice for his home in Martha’s Vineyard. His book, published in November 2006, explores how people deal with illness and death. The book includes eulogies for him solicited from Tom Brokaw, Ben Bradlee, and Mike Wallace.
