Nicholas Sullivan talked about his book You Can Hear Me Now: How Microloans and Cell Phones are Connecting the World’s Poor to the Global Economy, published by Jossey-Bass. The book tells the story of entrepreneur Iqbal Quadir, the founder of GrameenPhone. GrameenPhone is a partnership between Norway’s Telenor and Grameen Bank, and it defines a new approach to building business opportunities in the developing world. It was a co-winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for the concept of microloans. The company provides cell phones to the poor of Bangladesh in an effort to develop the country’s economy. GrameenPhone, which has aided millions of people in Bangledesh, currently has annual profits of over $200 million. GrameenPhone founder Iqbal Quadir participated in the discussion and both men responded to questions from members of the audience. close
