Rita Rubin talked about issues raised by a new vaccine against the human papillomavirus (HPV). It has been reported that 1 in 4 U.S. women between the ages of 14 and 59 has been infected by the virus, which can cause cervical cancer. The drug company Merck has been promoting efforts to require girls to be vaccinated against HPV. Texas Governor Rick Perry has ordered required vaccinations of sixth graders. Ms. Rubin responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.
