Senator Harkin talked about the debate that began the previous day in the Senate on two bills for federal funding for stem cell research. The senator is one of the main sponsors of one of the bills, S.30, that would reverse the current ban on federal funding for research on embryonic stem cells created after August 9, 2001. The senator chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, which has held many hearings on this issue. He responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
