Kathrine Newman and Victor Chen talked about their co-authored book, The Missing Class: Portraits of the Near Poor in America, published by Beacon Press. In their book Katherine Newman and Victor Chen researched America’s “missing class” that the authors contend consists of 57 million people that live between middle class and poverty. Ms. Newman and Mr. Chen profiled this economic grouping of people that make $20,000 to $40,000 per year for a family of four that work without government assistance to remain financially solvent.
