Sen. Akaka, a member of Senate Government Affairs, spoke about health care in the United States. Sen. Akaka reviewed the current crisis in health care and voiced his opinion that health care is a national responsibility. Sen. Akaka spoke about the Americare Plan to be offered by Senators Mitchell, Kennedy, and Rockefeller which would mandate companies to be involved in heath care coverage. Sen. Akaka also spoke about health care in Hawaii and the plan used there since 1974. The Hawaii Plan has been effective in providing health care to ninety-eight percent of the residents of Hawaii. close
