Editors talked about their book, Advocate for the Doomed: The Diaries and Papers of James G. McDonald, 1932-1935, published by Indiana University Press. It is the first of three volumes. The papers of American diplomat James Grover McDonald were donated to the Holocaust Museum by his daughter. They recorded his meetings with Hitler, Mussolini, the future Pope Pius XII, Franklin Roosevelt, David Ben-Gurion, and other leaders of the day. The papers provide information about the early history of the Nazi regime and the reactions of political and religious leaders to the persecution of the Jews and the founding of Israel. The editors talked about what they discovered in the papers. The panelists responded to questions from members of the audience. close
