The Young Americans for Freedom opened their convention in Washington with remarks from their officers and a brief speech from Mr. Friends commemorating the Roth-Kemp tax cuts of 1981. He argued the cuts had aided the economic turnaround in the 1980's, and dispelled the myths currently associated with the tax cuts. He claimed the myth that “the rich got richer and the poor got poorer during the 1980's” was in fact not the case when the facts were examined. Rep. Cox, member of the House Government Operations committee, gave brief remarks arguing the U.S. should not provide foreign aid for the economic and political reforms in the Soviet Union. He said the U.S. does not have enough money to “bail out” communism, and therefore the U.S. should not become part of a process of merely shipping money to the Soviet Union with no return. Rep. Cox recently introduced legislation to remove all taxpayer subsidized foreign aid to the Soviet Union granted by the U.S. since the fall of 1990. Rep. Cox close
