Panelists spoke about media coverage of a school shooting incident at Virginia Tech University in which a student opened fire in a dormitory and a classroom, killing several other students before taking his own life. Among the topics they addressed was the amount of time devoted to the incident in newscasts, the degree of speculation involved in covering the incident during a 24 hour news cycle, sources of information and methods used to disseminate information, as well as assessments of the quality of coverage. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience. Mr. Dalton moderated. close
