The eighth in a series on presidential libraries focused on Gerald R. Ford’s life and career through rarely seen film and sound recordings, as well as letters, documents and artifacts collected from the stacks and vaults of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Library officials guided a tour of the library and responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. Series historian and consultant Richard Norton Smith participated from the studio in Washington, D.C.

Highlighted film and sound featured during the program included audiotaped interviews with President Ford conducted by journalist and former Ford White House aide James Cannon from the late 1980s and into the mid-1990s; a filmed 1995 interview with President Ford by his White House photographer, David Hume Kennerly, in which President Ford tells the behind-the-scenes stories of photographs documenting his presidency; and the first-ever filmed tour of Camp David. President Ford opened the secretive site to cameras shortly after taking office. Featured documents and artifacts focused on the topics of Ford’s pardon of Richard M. Nixon; the Vietnam War and the fall of Saigon; the 1976 presidential campaign; the Ford and Reagan relationship; relations between Ford and Soviet leader Brezhnev; and the unique nature of the Ford presidency following the resignation of President Richard M.
