Jane Loeffler talked about the U.S. government spending millions of dollars to build what will become the largest U.S embassy in the world in Baghdad. She described it as walling off the Americans and leaving them completely detached from Baghdad. She feels that it conveys a message about the global outlook of the United States and conveys no confidence in the future of Iraq. She responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.

Jane Loeffler is a Visiting Associate Professor in Architectural History at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her article “Fortress America” appeared in Foreign Policy magazine. Some pictures from that article were shown. close
