Ms. Sciolino talked about her book The Outlaw State: Saddam Hussein’s Quest for Power and the Gulf Crisis, published by John Wiley and Sons. It chronicled the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990. She described the role of April Glaspie, the American ambassador to Iraq, in the days preceding the invasion and the rise to power of Saddam Hussein.
