The annual United Nations “International Day of the Disappeared” was marked by a seminar on “disappeared” persons moderated by Ms. Humaira Rahman. Participants talked about the plight of missing persons, presumed capture and imprisonment of dissidents, and efforts to highlight the scope of the problem. They also talked about their experience in various regions and the activities they witnessed. Mr. Smith lived and worked in Argentina during the “dirty war” when many people were "disappeared". Mr. Mirani reported on the situation of disappearances and the condition of missing activists' families among the people of Sindh in southeastern Pakistan. close
