Chris Myers Asch talked about his book, [The Senator and the Sharecropper: The

Freedom Struggles of James O. Eastland and Fannie Lou Hamer] (New Press; May 13, 2008). In his book Mr. Asch profiles the lives of two central civil rights figures, former Democratic Senator James O. Eastland and sharecropper Fannie Lou Hamer, against the backdrop of the political and social upheaval that took place in Sunflower County, Mississippi, which was a center for cotton production during the 1950s and 60s.
