Senator Grassley spoke about Senate efforts to draft an amendment to meet the demands of a group of House Republicans who say they might vote for the S-CHIP bill if changes are made to it. The legislation would expand the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) by $35 billion over five years, to $60 billion. To pay for it, the bill would raise tobacco taxes, including a 61-cent increase in the cigarette tax, to $1 per pack. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
