Michael Gerson talked about his book Heroic Conservatism: Why Republicans Need to Embrace America’s Ideals (And Why They Deserve to Fail If They Don’t), published by HarperOne. Mr. Gerson argues that the Republican Party needs to redefine what it means to be a conservative. He says that without embracing an outlook that is bold and compassionate, Republicans will lose the American public’s support in upcoming elections. The guest interviewer was Richard Viguerie.
Michael J. Gerson is a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, a regular contributor for Newsweek, and a syndicated columnist for the Washington Post. In addition to his career as a speechwriter for President George W. Bush, presidential candidate Senator Bob Dole, and Senator Dan Coats, Mr. Gerson is also former senior editor for U.S. News and World Report.
Richard Viguerie, direct mail pioneer and one of the founders of the modern conservative movement, is president of ConservativeHQ.com and the author of Conservatives Betrayed: How George W. Bush and Other Big Government Republicans Hijacked the Conservative Cause, published by Bonus Books. close
