Freelance journalist Doug Grindle was embedded in southern Iraq with members of the U.S. Army National Guard’s 238th Aviation Battalion during the month of February 2008. Soldiers from this unit conduct medical evacuation missions for U.S. soldiers, Coalition forces, and Iraqi and third-country nationals. He accompanied the U.S. soldiers as they evacuated Iraqi nationals involved in a serious vehicle accident on the main supply route to Baghdad. He interviewed Sergeants Lucas Turner, Joe Beyer, Tim Barr, and Jon Smith; Chief Warrant Officers Charles Anderson, Brett Oldfather, and Timothy Coe.
