Christopher Alan Bracey talked about his book Saviors or Sellouts: The Promise and Peril of Black Conservatism, from Booker T. Washington to Condoleezza Rice. The book explores the history and recent rise of African American conservatism. According to Mr. Bracey in 1972 ten percent of African Americans considered themselves conservative while today thirty percent do. He traced the black conservative movement from its origins before the Civil War until today and attempted to answer the question “what is a black conservative?” He also discussed what factors might attract African Americans to conservatism.
