The witnesses testified about a report from the Government Accountability Office on testing the effectiveness of airport security checkpoints and locating vulnerabilities. Undercover missions by government investigators were able to smuggle bomb parts through security screens and onto airplanes several times this year. Other topics included enhanced employee skills, the components of improvised explosive devices, other uses of U.S. Marshals in airports, banning of liquids and gels in luggage, and the additional ways that Transportation Security Administration screens passengers such as behavior observation. close
