Diane Bystrom talked by remote video from Des Moines, Iowa, about the history of the Iowa caucuses. They have existed since the early 1800s but gained national attention in 1972 and more in 1976 when Jimmy Carter won the caucuses. A portion of an interview done with former President Carter at his libray in Atlanta on October 22, 1999, was shown. She reacted to his comments about the caucuses. She talked about how the caucuses have changed. She responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
