Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke testified about the near-term outlook for the U.S. economy. He said he expects slow economic growth in 2008 but not a recession. He did not endorse any specific measures to slow the economic decline, but in reference to proposed legislation, he said to committee members, “In order for this to be useful, you would need to act quickly.” He noted that extra money must get into the hands of people within the next 12 months. close
