U.S. POWs from the 1991 Gulf War held a news conference to discuss President Bush’s veto of the Defense Authorization Act, and the impact of the veto on their court judgment against Iraq for torture during the war.

In Acree v. Republic of Iraq, seventeen American POWs who were tortured, beaten, and starved while held captive in Iraq during the Persian Gulf War in 1991 and thirty-seven close family members, who have suffered significant psychological trauma as a result, won a judgment against Saddam Hussein, the Republic of Iraq, and the Iraqi Intelligence Service. They are appealing the blocking of their claim. close
