In Acree v. Republic of Iraq, seventeen American POWs who were tortured, beaten, and starved while held captive in Iraq during the Persian Gulf War in 1991 and thirty-seven close family members, who have suffered significant psychological trauma as a result, won a judgment against Saddam Hussein, the Republic of Iraq, and the Iraqi Intelligence Service. They are appealing the blocking of their claim.
