Secretary Leavitt and other department officials talked with reporters about the administration’s proposed fiscal year 2009 budget for the Department of Health and Human Services. The secretary requested a $2 billion reduction in the agency’s budget. Other topics included the budget for Medicare, the costs of pharmaceuticals, and the children’s health insurance plan.
