A ceremony was held honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., the day before the 40th anniversary of his death on April 4, 1968. Following the invocation and the Presentation of the Colors, family members, congressional leaders, and dignitaries spoke of his life, his legacy, and his great influence on the course of the civil rights movement. Those gathered joined in singing “We Shall Overcome” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” close
