Senator John McCain spoke at Cecil Field Airport in Jacksonville, Florida, as part of his “Service to America” biographical tour. He was a Navy lieutenant stationed at Cecil Field before and after his tour of duty in Vietnam, where he became a prisoner of war for 5 1/2 years. He called Orange Park “closer to being a hometown” for him than anywhere else, and praised his former neighbors for taking care of his family during his imprisonment. His speech focused on the horrors of war and the importance of duty. Other topics included preserving Social Security and Medicare, simplifying the tax code, and finding alternative energy sources.

This event was in Hanger 14 at Cecil Field, Florida Community College at Jacksonville’s aviation center. close
